SYNOPSIS

Virginie-Occidentale, 1920. Joe Kennehan débarque dans une ville minière pour rallier les travailleurs au syndicalisme. Il découvre une population divisée, soumise au patronat et minée par ses préjugés. Face à l’injustice, la solidarité devient peu à peu une nécessité. Un film rare, inédit en France, très engagé.

In the face of injustice, solidarity gradually becomes a necessity. A rare film, never before released in France, and deeply committed to its cause.

John Sayles (1939- )

 

 

Formé à l’école de Roger Corman, il débute dans le cinéma de genre comme scénariste, avant de bâtir une œuvre farouchement indépendante et engagée. De Matewan (1987) à City of Hope (1991) ou Lone Star (1996), il explore les luttes ouvrières, les fractures raciales et les contradictions de l’Amérique, avec un sens aigu du collectif et un profond attachement aux lieux, à leur mémoire et à leurs habitants.

John Sayles (1939- )

 

Trained at the "Roger Corman Film School," he began his career in genre cinema as a screenwriter before building a fiercely independent and socially conscious body of work. From Matewan (1987) and City of Hope (1991) to Lone Star (1996), he explored workers' struggles, racial divisions and the contradictions of America, with a keen sense of community and a deep attachment to places, their history and their inhabitants.
