Issu du théâtre et marqué par ses idées libérales, il fut d’ailleurs mis sur la liste noire pendant le maccarthysme, il est l’auteur de films humanistes à forte consonnance politique et sociale tels que Le Plus sauvage d’entre tous (1963), Hombre (1967), Traître sur commande (1970), Le Prête-nom (1976) et Norma Rae (1979). Il a aussi adapté des œuvres de Faulkner et John le Carré.

Mario Monicelli (1915-2010)

 

Coming from a theatre background and influenced by his liberal ideas, he was blacklisted during the McCarthy era. He directed humanistic films with strong political and social themes, such as Hud (1963), Hombre (1967), The Molly Maguires (1970), The Front (1976), and Norma Rae (1979). He also adapted works by Faulkner and John le Carré.
