A group of German labourers are working on a construction site in Bulgaria. Their haughty and contemptuous behaviour is met with distrust and coldness by the locals. They each speak their own language without understanding the other with no attempt to overcome their prejudices, and the situation becomes bogged down. As tension mounts, former soldier Meinhard decides to break the ice and gradually comes to be accepted.
