Carol Ledoux is a manicurist at a beauty salon and lives with her sister, Helen, who is in a relationship with a married man. Carol is introverted and experiences relationship problems with men, and she is uncomfortable with the presence of her sister's lover. When the pair go away on holiday, she shuts herself up in the apartment and sinks into madness.
