Madrid, 1939. Pepita leaves her Andalusian village to be near her sister, a Republican militant who is in prison and pregnant. The implacable justice of the new regime has condemned her to death but has deferred the sentence until she has given birth. Yet the young woman, fearful by nature, will take any risk to obtain her sister's pardon and recover the child when it is born.
