During the reign of Napoleon I, François Vidocq is a legend. After his last escape from prison, he wants to be forgotten, taking the guise of a simple shopkeeper in Paris. But his past soon catches up with him. Accused of a murder he did not commit, he offers the head of security a deal: he will join the police to fight crime in exchange for his freedom.
