Between the 1930s and the 1950s, the inhabitants of a small border village in the south of Bohemia find themselves confronted by significant political and ethnic dilemmas. Hitherto insignificant conflicts between neighbours soon come to provoke injustices, acts of revenge and folly. A superb rural chronicle about ordinary people who are swept along in the torment of history.
