In Germany during the Second World War, Jojo, an adorable little 10-year-old boy, is delighted to join the Hitler Youth group. Indoctrinated, he makes up an imaginary friend whose traits resemble those of the Führer, Adolf Hitler. His world falls apart when he discovers that his mother is hiding a young Jewish girl, Elsa, in their home. Jojo struggles with his conscience but, slowly, he learns to like this new housemate, whom he finds rather scary.
