Synopsis

Following the death of her husband, Queen Victoria has lost her interest in life and refuses to perform her royal duties. Her popularity declines, which worries the authorities. But the arrival of her Scottish groom will change everything. A subtle and gently ironic observation on power and its denials. 

Biography

John Madden (1949-)

Having his origins in theatre, John Madden worked in British television and radio before moving into cinema as a director. The author of a globally acclaimed film that won seven Oscars, Shakespeare in Love (1998), he has successfully turned his talents to the greatest screenplays: Mrs. Brown (1997), Proof (2005), The Debt (2010), The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011), Miss Sloane (2016), Operation Mincemeat (2021).
